I never got around to making a nice animation to go with this task. However, here is an external link to help you out--Importing videos to iMovie. Be intelligent about the fact that they are obviously talking about a specific setup. That is, I don't expect you to be in their English department computer lab. Also they probably have a bi-directional analog to digital video converter connecting their VCR and DVD player to the computer. Ask your AV department to help you with this.
